A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step- Lao-Tzu 640bc(minus240days)
Training today was part of this thousand mile journey that is only 240days away. All the planning and meetings and periphery will count for nothing if the training isn't thorough. The weather today was cold windy and wet and the country lanes were muddy or worse It was all miles in the bank, each revolution of the pedals was all towards next summer and completing the Lands End to John O'Groats challenge in 5 days.
Most people rust out due to lack of challenge. Few people rust out due to overuse.
I love a challenge, love the way it fills up all the empty spaces in my life between family and work and gives me something to look forward to during mundane hours of earning a living. For the last three years I have looked for a challenge in France and Italy, pitted myself against their big mountains and come away exhausted, drained but happy that the challenge was met and conquered. Unfortunately it is like a drug, a few weeks after the massive high of completing the Marmotte or the Gran Fondo Pinerello, the pressure starts to build up to find a a new and bigger challenge. Although domestic, this challenge is the biggest yet, 5 days of
200miles to complete the journey. whereas all the others have been single day challenges.
We are all keeping a training dairy and this blog will be my attempt at that, with pictures, words and maybe short videos.
